With population five to six times higher than the United States, China has only one-fifieth of the jewellery sales of the United States. Leaders in China expect to maintain an annual 7% economic growth by the end of 2002 that constant economic improvement results in higher people's living standard.

Immense economic growth prompts foreign timepieces consumption. Increasing purchasing power of middle-class group poses the trend for brands that every purchase reaches USD 120 - 12,000. According to the China National Commerical Information Centre's recent survey, 4 foreign brands step in top 10 brands list in market share, and in 2001 retail value, imported timepieces account for 73.2% of the total that reflect the emergence of competition among import brands.
